    General Manager

Kamal Hrouch was born in France and raised in Morocco, son to the Major Colonel Moha Hrouch. He was placed into a military boarding school where he mastered order and time management. Kamal, however, chose his own path over following in his father’s military footsteps. Once he graduated high school, he then pursued a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Therapy in Ukraine. There he learned Russian, in addition to Arabic and French. After graduating from University, he relocated to the United States and picked up part-time jobs in the food industry to make ends meet, while searching for the right physical therapist opportunity. As he traveled the nation, exploring all that the States had to offer, he finally landed in California, which he is now proud to call home. During this time of flux, he gained so much knowledge, experience and passion for the foodservice industry, that he decided to end the pursuit for a Physical Therapy career. He has experience in managing everything from small coffee shops to large corporate chain restaurants. We’re so happy he landed here with Bon Appetit for almost a decade now! Happy anniversary, Kamal!

  • Alvaro Ruiz
    Executive Chef

After culinary arts school, Alvaro worked in the restaurant industry fine tuning his culinary skills before continuing a journey to Central America spending time in Guatemala. On this multi-country adventure, Alvaro was able to explore different ingredients and methods of cooking. When he returned to the United States, he continued to work at different restaurants as he developed his own unique culinary style. In 2011, he joined Bon Appétit Management Company and it was a game changer, giving me a sense of freedom and ability to choose the fresh, local, seasonal ingredients that I love and to not limit creativity with food! Alvaro comes to Soka most recently from the Getty Restaurant in Los Angeles where he was the Sous Chef.
